A lion remains a lion even if captured. I agree with the idea that Saddam was possibly on drugs when captured. If not his own cocktail of painkillers, then maybe something given by his captors to keep him docile. Then don't forget, he was armed when they caught him. Why didn't he just pop a couple caps into the soldiers who were gonna pull him from his "spider hole"? Not that that would be a good thing or anything, but it's what I expected from the "Rogue leader of the Axis of Evil". He went down pretty much like anyone would, after being dogged since March.
