First fire of the year

Our fireplace, as seen through the screen. As the first real rainstorm is upon us, we lit our first fire.
It was kind of hard to get started, even with dry wood. Makes you think that all of those brush fires that happen had to have been set on purpose. It seemed so hard to get going that I thought every fire just HAD to be set on pupose. Way too hard to light one on "accident".

We lit one during that storm too.. Of course storm in LA means light showers and a cloud with periods of panic in the streets, but just the same, I usually give up on the newspaper and kindling method and opt for the dousing of lighter fluid. :)
