So dark, I kind of like the other, brighter "fake" HDR photos. This is the only one that I finished all the photoshop steps on, somehow I don't like it as much. By the way, this used to be the Hanna-Barbera building.

This looks like a travel postcard, but it's just a "fake" HDR effect. This is a landmark plaza in Santa Barbara, hidden in plain site right next to their city hall!

Mysterious Case of Disappearing Acorns - Squirrels Starving

Prop 8 Protest Rally Silver Lake - Conflict - No to Proposition 8 - No to Hate

Prop 8 Protest in Silver Lake - Conflict with proponents of proposition 8 which denies marriage rights to gay and lesbian couples in California. Three guys with bullhorns and signs also attended the rally of over 20,000 people. Mounted police officers do a fantastic job of protecting the free speech right of both the marchers and the counter-protestors. Liquid is tossed towards the three "Yes on 8" men, while 3 more guardian angel nun-drag queens tell the crowd to move along and if you just ignore them, they'll go away. Scenes of the crowd passing by are not the same group over and over, I stayed in one place, and never really could show how many people were really there.

What the state of the union might be like Richard Pryor style

I saw Seth Rogen at my polling place!

After waiting on line for around an hour, I finally got the chance to let my voice be heard on the ballot. While heading back home, I spotted Seth Rogen waiting on line. Since I live in Hollywood and such, I guess I should have expected to see some famous people at the polls. I totally dear-spotted him as I walked right past him on the way to my car. He kind of looked back at me. Maybe somewhere in the back of his mind he was all, "Dude, I think I just saw that babysitter guy!" One can only hope.

You really need to go to this site.

I simply cannot believe I found a place that touches on my very serious fears of squirrel attacks.

Be prepared... do your research... know the enemy.

They are mostly grey, brown and red... and they are already in your own backyard!

Squirrel leaves trail of destruction in its wake

A squirrel ignited a fiery chain reaction that led to a power line collapse, car fire, natural gas fire and a power outage in northwest Spokane Wednesday morning.

That's a lot of damage for just one squirrel. I insist he had help from the underground squirrel army.

Keep on your toes people. It looks like they are methodically testing our defenses, and are preparing to make their final move!

Who's going to jail?

I just want to know one thing... who's going to spend time in federal prison for orchestrating this financial fiasco?

Who's to blame?

I certainly don't want to pay for it out of my taxes, that sounds very socialist to me. Usually, it's the rich complaining about socialism, but this time the upper class needs the tacit approval of the unwashed masses before looting their bank accounts.

The oil companies just had several years of obscene record profits in the billions of dollars range.

The fat cats on Wall St. throw around advice like, "Be sure to split any deposits above $100,000 between accounts, or it's not covered by FDIC."

Yeah, like we all have hundreds of thousands of dollars and have to worry about those kinds of details.

Don't forget the troops will be in the streets starting tomorrow... but don't worry, they're there to help us get through these tough times, I swear.

Civil unrest is unlikely however, only because almost everyone is tied up watching the new 90210, reading about Lindsay Lohan's lesbian love romp, and downloading britney spears' latest sex tape... so I don't expect to see riots coming to your streets any time in the near future.

Yet once again I ask... who's going to jail?

Because someone is going to have to pay for this, they're going to have to answer up to it, face us down under hot lights. Someone has to balance the books and make right what has been taken away from us... and I'll tell you one thing, it's not going to be me.

Say no to the bailout. Say no to daylight robbery. Say no to your elected officials, don't let them get away with robbing our children and grandchildren to pay some clever bankers.

Monday, September 22, 2008

Billions for bankers but nothing for Social Security?

Why for how come we couldn't have our congress pass a resolution to pump billions of dollars into Social Security? If they are going to be rescuing a bunch of private financial, insurance and investment companies for the sake of the almighty dollar, what good is it if you have to eat cat food once you reach retirement age?

Our priorities must be the financial market. I read that the amount of money they plan on throwing at the current financial "crisis" would provide health care for every man, woman and child in the U.S. for six months.

Free markets require a correction now and then. It feels like they keep propping up the value of the dollar when they should let it find equilibrium within the global economy. By hiding the true relationship of our dollar with the rest of the world's currencies, we are deluding ourselves and extending the time it takes for the house of cards to come crumbling down.

I was appalled that the markets actually took a 400 point jump at the close of last week's trading.

What are these people smoking?

La Gran Limpieza, the Great L.A. River Clean-Up

Went down to the Bette Davis Picnic Area on the back-side of Griffith Park and helped FOLAR (Friends of Los Angeles River) clean up our "river".

I met some great people, and I really enjoyed seeing all of the kids that chose to get involved with such a great cause.

It is a nasty, sticky, dirty body of water that writhes its way through our metropolis. It needs some TLC every now and then.

LA GRAN LIMPIEZA / THE GREAT L.A. RIVER CLEANUP

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8orn1FIN_W0

SATURDAY, May 17, 2008 - Footage of FoLAR's 19th Annual Great Los Angeles River CleanUp - Shot by Keith Coogan on a Sony HDR-HC1, edited with iMovie - Sponsored By:

BANK OF AMERICA ; City of Los Angeles, Department of Public Works, Bureau of Sanitation; Port of Long Beach; Warner Brothers; Keep California Beautiful; American Chemistry Council; Fox Entertainment Group; Metropolitan Water District; Albertsons; Baxter BioScience; CDM; CH2MHill; Eartwise Bags; Homeboy Industries; Kaiser; Los Angeles County Department of Public Works; Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine; Los Angeles Conservation Corps; Los Angeles Department of Water and Power; Mean Green Team Purifighters; Metrolink; Metropolitan Transit Authority; Patagonia; Raw Revolution; Supervisor Yvonne Burke; Tom's of Maine River Awareness Program; Water Replenishment District; Wenk and Associates; Yosemite Waters;

(FoLAR) Friends of the Los Angeles River is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 1986, whose mission is to protect and restore the natural and historic heritage of the Los Angeles River and its riparian habitat through inclusive planning, education and wise stewardship. Once home to steelhead and grizzlies, the Los Angeles River meandered through wetlands, marshes, willow, alder and sycamore, providing desperately needed water for the region. Now running over 50 miles long - from the suburbs of the San Fernando Valley to the ocean in Long Beach - the Los Angeles River flows through 14 cities and countless neighborhoods. When the Army Corps of Engineers initiated a flood control project in the late 1930's, they began the process of paving 80% of the River, creating the world's largest storm drain. Over the ensuing decades, the River that had been the sole water supply for the City of Los Angeles before the Los Angeles Aqueduct was completed in 1913 almost disappeared from public consciousness. With the cement came a perceptual shift: the River no longer existed. Instead, it was a "flood control channel," a no-man's land, surrounded by fences and signs.

Dear Friends,

I had a blast down at the Griffith Park section today. We entered through the Bette Davis Picnic Area and waded through the muck and the guck to try to help our city's strangest landmark. What other metropolis has a twisting cement wash with a four inch trickle of water that can suddenly turn into a raging rapids with the drop of a few inches of rain? From the Sepulveda basin to Long Beach, I simply love seeing the Los Angeles river from my car window anytime I drive near it. This was the first time I ventured into the actual riverbed, and I have to say, I had no idea what a cool place it is. If you get the chance, try to make it down next year and take part in a unique and benevolent experience.

Sincerely,

Keith Coogan

Sean Young, we love you!

Gorgeous and talented starlet Sean Young has my total support. Let me think, an older (not 14) woman, talented yet fiercely individual professional, after getting pushed aside and marginalized by major studios for years, has an incident at the DGA awards which serves as a catalyst for seeking help with substance or alcohol abuse.

Um.... I think that's great! I just have to say, I know and love Sean, I always felt she got a bad rap from men in the business that are afraid of powerful women. She always managed to roll with the punches, and take advantage and play on her reputation. She always had a great humor about the business, and a drive and ambition to match no other. My comment to an actor that DOESN'T dress up in a catsuit and stalk the director is, "Well you obviously didn't want the part!"

So Sean, I love you and am sending good mojo your way. Get well, and we'll see you when you get healthy. And for all others, please rent the movies that we worked on together, "Cousins" and "Forever: A Ghost of a Love Story", so that we can get some of that big residual money!

David Lynch on iPhone

David Lynch breaks it down. I agree that no one can "fully" enjoy a film while watching one on an iPhone. I also think that being able to bring up "Office Space" so that you can have a quick laugh and not strangle the person in front of you has its own merits. Trust me, nothing is cooler than waiting in a parked car while watching "Transformers" on your iPhone just lying there on the dashboard. Oh yeah, with the sound blarring through your car stereo. It is pretty awesome. I will have to load Mulholland Drive onto my iPhone tonight, and see just how much I "miss" while watching on my iPhone. Now, with video out, I can take a copy of one of my short films or features with me anywhere I go and plug it into almost any television set and I'm able to show it. I could show my portfolio, or reel, or music video, or whatever. I agree with David Lynch that there is no way to take it all in on such a small device, especially when artists like David (and myself) create entertainment and art with the hopes that it is viewed/enjoyed/consumed within certain constraints, or rather suggested canvases. I myself also like to "leave a little headroom" and I like the volume cranked, but I have to say, the following movies sure do look pretty damn good on my iPhone:

Casino Royale
Transformers
Scarface
Blood Diamond
Grindhouse (Planet Terror is the best movie ever)
King Kong
Live Free or Die Hard (freakin' awesome)
Batman Begins
Superman Returns
V for Vendetta
and of course...Office Space

All legal copies by the way, I simply have a portable DVD player called an iPhone and of course I bought every single DVD in meat space, for full price, from either Target or Satan (Best Buy)*
